Party time

Hello, and welcome to the blog party for the re-launch of Clare Curd Crafts DT I know there is a lot of really inspirational stuff to be shared with you today so don't forget to check out the blog and those of our DT members as the day goes on.

I did wonder what to share for my first DT piece and more importantly I wanted it to be something great with it being the blog party and shop re-launch. I love mixed media and anything that involves me getting messy with paint and inks and so that gave me the starting point for my small canvas hanging.

I used a 5x7 inch pre primed canvas board as my base, but you can use whatever you want, a deep edge canvas, chipboard or an art journal. If your surface isn’t already primed then give it a coat of Gesso so you have a good base to apply your colours to.

~ For the first layer of colour, I used black and white acrylic paint and dry brushed them on, blending a little as I did.
~ Then I took Dylusions White Linen Ink Spray and added it in a couple of areas, allowing it to drip, and in others just a light spray.

~ Now select a whole bunch of stamps and just get some texture on your background, make sure you use a permanent ink. A great set of stamps for texture is this Tim Holtz Stamp Set

~Now we want some definition in the background, I used the stars from the Crafty Expressions EXPLORE set.

~Next step is getting some raised texture onto our piece. I mixed some texture paste with black acrylic paint and applied it around the edges of my canvas but you could use UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) if you prefer.

~ Now we need to get some colour onto the piece. I used a very wet solution of red acrylic paint and dripped it in the position I wanted then blew the paint to get it to spread across the canvas.
~Next step is to get more interest onto the canvas. I added more stamps, splats of red paint, sprinkled on and melted some silver UTEE, and some white rub ons (from my stash)

~ Now onto the embellishment. I used a chipboard star I had in my stash, coated it in UTEE and while it was still hot I stamped into the UTEE. I then rubbed over it with a permanent black ink pad to age it. I then backed the star with some paper from the Well Travelled 6x6 paper pad.
~Next I altered some chipboard letters from my stash, printed out my chosen phrase and after deciding on the placement attached everything to the canvas.

~next add final details using the Inkssentials White Pen. I also used a black permanent marker to outline my words. Also add a small UTEE coated star to a piece of acetate and hang it behind the last letter S. I then  added eyelets to thread a piece of wire through to hang the canvas by.
