Sunday Smash*Along - Welcome!

Hello and welcome to our first ever Sunday Smash*ers - thank you for coming along and showing your support!

  • If you're like me and have a stack of Smash books but no idea where to start - do not despair!

  • If you've already made a huge start on your books but are looking for inspiration - you've come to the right place :)

Every sunday, I will be offering a prompt/challenge to get your creative brains whirring and those Smash fingers tingling.  We ask that you share your work and come join our little Smash crop every sunday and in return there will be prizes and inspiration along the way!

So without further delay, here is this weeks!

Sunday 19th May - It's all in the details

This week, we want you to take a look through your journaling cards and use them as a prompt for your next page.  You may own some of the Smash journal pads - they're absolutely fantastic for inspiration.  How about Project life cards or die cuts?  Pinterest is always an excellent source of printables.  Be brave!

For me, this is not how a page usually forms in my imagination.  Usually, it will stem from a photograph or a memory.. but you'll be amazed what forgotten memories you can uncover if they're prompted!

I have the Smash 365 Folio and was so excited to start once i'd prettied the cover with a few embellishments, a white gel pen to bring out the embossing and a swish of that gorgeous Polka dot Washi.  But then it dawned on me..

.. I project life.. I scrapbook.. my events will be recorded within my scrapbooks - so what the heck do I record in this book?

Then I had a brainwave.. what if I record about the event as a topic, rather than what happened on the day itself.  Confused?  Ok, allow me to elaborate.

Shrove Tuesday.. pancake day.. however you name it - it's a done day in our house!  I've countless pictures through the years of our pancake stacks and memories of the kids happy faces - but I forgot to record the details.  What recipe do we use?  Who makes the pancakes?  Any funny memories or special tips?  Do you have certain rituals in your home regarding toppings?  I know some people think it's a criminal offence to use anything other than lemon juice and sugar ;)

SO I created this page:
Supplies Used: Echo park Photo Freedom, Cosmo Cricket 6x6 2wenty Thr3e, Smash Family pad, Paula Pascual Journalling Clear Stamps.
I felt as though I wanted to cry out to the world - HURRAY!! I FINALLY have a use for my Smash 365 - and I finally USED IT!!  And once I had the mindset that told me what this book was for, I felt so inspired, like there was no stopping me!

So, back to journaling - the card was perfect, but it just didn't fit on my page.

Brainwave!!

I'll raise my photograph up on foam dots and then the journaling card can slide behind it - just showing enough to make it a neat little embellishment!

Here it is with the full journaling revealed:

The best part?  I got my husband to write it out - because it's his recipe!  I love his little doodlings.

And this all started from a journaling card.  One prompt made me think outside the box.. because despite all of the events in the Smash 365, Shrove Tuesday is not one of them ;)

Disclaimer: A few groundhogs were covered in the making of this page...
